Gods of Music

Description

Alright, as promised here is piece #1 in the Gods of Art series :)

Music is very important to me and has helped me through a lot of times where I was struggling with writer's block or really needed some sort of outlet for my mood. These are not all the artists I think belong here, these are just the ones who have changed music and pushed the limits of music and revolutionized their genres.

Starting at the top with the Hound dog and working clockwise:

-Elvis
-30 Seconds to Mars
-Bob Dylan
-David Bowie (Lightning Bolt)
-Freddie Mercury (of Queen)
-The Eagles
-Metallica (the Skull)
-Daft Punk (the robot head)
-Pink Floyd (Dark Side of the Moon)
-John Lennon (his glasses)
-Slash (Guy with Top-Hat and guitar, of Guns N' Roses)
-Steve Perry (of Journey)
-The Ramones (Converse)
-Korn (Follow the Leader)
-Jim Morrison
-The Cure (the hands with stars)
-Coldplay (A Rush of Blood to the Head)

Second "Circle"
-Guns N' Roses/Velvet Revolver/Sex Pistols (the gun with roses)
-Nirvana (Nevermind baby)
-Elton John (with glasses, greatest hits cover)
-Red Hot Chili Peppers (logo)
-Janis Joplin (Singing under Bob Dylan)
-Pearl Jam (Ten cover)
-Black Swan/Radiohead (the black swan)
-Steven Tyler (of Aerosmith)
-Rage Against the Machine (Evil Empire cover)
-Rolling Stones (logo)
-Chester Bennington (of Linkin Park)
-Blink 182 (logo)
-The Beach Boys (woodie)
-U2 (best of 1980-90 cover)
-The Who (logo)
-Jimi Hendrix (next to the Cure)
-Beastie Boys (the brass monkey)

3rd "circle"
-Led Zeppelin (the Mothership)
-Green Day (American Idiot cover)
-Iron Maiden/Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne (the iron mask)
-The Beatles (yellow submarine, facing forward, not sideways)
-Jefferson Airplane (the white rabbit)
-Flogging Molly (logo)
-Angus Young (of AC/DC)
-Sublime (the skateboard)
-Murdoc Niccals (of the Gorillaz)

and in the center is Bob Marley :)

This was done on 20x30 artist paper with pencil and then black ink. It took the best of 8 hours to draw and finish... I didn't want to draw the artists verbatim because there is no expression to that, which is what music is all about. So I adapted a kind of graffiti style to keep it looking curvy and fun.

Now don't get upset you don't see MJ or Whitney Houston or Beyonce on here because they are great artists, but they didn't fit the kind of boundary pushing I wanted. Honestly, I 1) focused on more rock n roll oriented bands and 2) didn't have enough space to fit EVERYONE I wanted to get in.

If I get a giant mural (which I will eventually) I will expand the group to feature more artists like Tupac, Eminem, Aretha Franklin, MJ, Otis Redding, Mariah Carey, Kiss, the Scorpions, Talking Heads, R.E.M., Diana Ross, Lynyrd Skynrd, Nine Inch Nails, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Santana, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Elvis Costello, Andre 3000, Dave Matthews Band, Sinatra, the Police, Temptations, Al Green, Kinks, Grateful Dead, Dr. Dre, Billy Joel, Run DMC, Marilyn Monroe and Manson, Madonna, Johnny Cash, The Clash, Stevie Wonder, Foo Fighters, Buddy Holly, etc.... so don't be too upset the best of best aren't there, because they will be!
